The third and final night of the Powerhouse Program was a huge success! Although we truly missed three of our team players, therapist Kim Mossman, Cara Cipullo and motivational speaker Wayne Soares, we knew they were there in spirit!
The Powerhouse participants, ranging in ages from 6-15 years old, enjoyed a night of empowerment, socializing with each other and the adult volunteers, and empowering athletic games.
Lieutenant Wendy Lapierre of the Pembroke Police Dept. led the physical activities which included a series of defensive tactics to remind the participants of the power of their own voices and a strong physical presence. NAC volunteers Mark Crawford and Craig Methot assisted Wendy and worked up quite a sweat as these kids took the challenge seriously. We all felt inspired as we witnessed the change in their physical demeanor. The kids truly looked more confident after the exercises!
Fashion Focus founder, Maria Wood, led a discussion on social media dangers and how to recognize and appropriately react to cyberbullying. And with the help of the volunteers recounting their personal stories of triumph over social exclusion and shyness, the kids felt comfortable enough to open up and shared their newfound strategies for how to deal with difficult social situations and mean boys and girls.

A huge thank you to Kim Tripilo, owner of Norwell Athletic Club, for graciously opening up her facility to us and allowing the Powerhouse Program to find its wings.
