Think Before You Speak

Think before you speak. Don’t say words that will insult or hurt others.  Say words that are kind and good or say nothing at all.  Isn’t that the right thing to do?

Apparently not.  We seem to be surrounded by people, some in our everyday lives and others in positions of power,  who don’t seem to care about the weight of their words and how detrimental they can be when carelessly thrown around…insensitive, thoughtless comments and nasty words that are meant to inflict pain, degradation and embarrassment.

Compound that with the written comments and malicious attacks that kids, teens, and adults wield on social media, and we have ourselves a sad and disappointing dilemma.

If you have ever been the victim of a verbal or cyber attack, or maybe multiple attacks, we feel your pain and we are here to help.  Here is one powerful tip to help you take back your power:  Implement your own zero-tolerance policy.  You have the power to shut it all down.  Block cell numbers, snap chats, IG, or whatever social media you are on.  Send a clear and strong message that you are not to be trifled with.  Do not be afraid to set the record straight with your haters.  You have nothing to lose but negative, bitter people who will only keep trying to hurt you.  Show them with your actions that you respect yourself more than you care for or respect them.

If you are the person who is inflicting the pain, demeaning words and humiliation to others, we’re here to help you, too.  Before you lash out at someone, first ask yourself WHY?  Why would you possibly hurt the feelings of someone who has done absolutely nothing to deserve it?  What is going on in your life that has brought you to this place of hate, jealousy, or lack of self-control?  Perhaps you are struggling with your own low self-esteem, or maybe you are going through something traumatic and don’t know how to process it so you are acting out on others to ease your suffering.

Whatever the reason, compounding your pain by inflicting pain on others IS NOT a solution.  Ask for help from a friend or adult.  Be a better human being.  You are worth it!
